Shagou Solar Power Project
Shagou, located near the Mu Us desert in northwest China’s Ningxia Province, one of China’s four major deserts, is rich in solar resources. However, the windy and dusty weather in this region makes it challenging for solar projects to maintain normal operations. Workers used “wheatgrass squares” to fix sand and prevent it from blowing into the panels.
The super-hot and dry weather in this area makes it challenging for vegetation to thrive. After several attempts, workers ultimately opted for alfalfa, which is suitable for the local environment and can control sand, and planted it under the photovoltaic panels. The alfalfa, which covers approximately 580 thousand m2, is already blooming with adorable purple flowers.
CTG has built solar projects in deserts to generate power while simultaneously planting vegetation to control sand and ensure the normal operation of the project. The innovative model transforms deserts into oases.
