A state-owned Chinese power giant has filed a patent for a new offshore wind power system.
China Three Gorges Corporation, which specialises in hydro, solar and wind energy, submitted its designs to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), a United Nations-run body created to promote and protect a range of copyright and patents.
The system includes wind turbines located offshore, data centres in marine environments, fish farms in the ocean, a platform situated at sea, underwater cables and a substation on land.
The wind turbines and platform are positioned above the water's surface, while the fish farms are found within the ocean, and the data centres sit on the ocean floor.
Together, they are interconnected through cables housed in turbine sleeves, with the platform, the land-based substation and the turbine sleeves linked using the underwater cables.
While the turbines generate electricity for the grid, they also power the centres and fish farms, and any waste heat produced by the data servers is used to supply warmth to the fish farms.
