Wildlife Conservation Center in Brasil
The Wildlife Conservation Center (CCFS) in Brasil was reopened for community visits recently. Reference in the management of Cerrado region and the Atlantic Forest wildlife, this Center relies on nearly 350 wild animals, amongst birds, reptiles and mammals unable to return to the nature. A recent example was a couple of tapirs living in CCFS of CTG Brasil Ilha Solteira, reintroduced in the nature in Rio de Janeiro, a region wherein this animal was extinguished since 2017. Tapirs are considered the ‘forest gardeners’ due to their capacity of spreading trees seeds. This initiative involved a team of 20 professionals, carried out jointly between CTG Brasil, Ecologic, Social and Environmental Institution, Refauna, the Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ) and Guapia??u Ecologic Reserve (REGUA).
